What Date is Mothers Day Throughout the World

Do you ever wonder what date is Mothers Day throughout the world? This special day set aside for mothers is not on the same date in every country, nor is it even celebrated in the same month or season everywhere.

What dates is Mothers Day in Australia, Austria, Belgium and Brazil? That's simple, they are the same date that moms are treated to in Canada and the United States every year, that of the second Sunday in the month of May. Many other countries also remember their mothers on this day as well. These countries include Chile, China, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Latvia and Malta. This is also Mothers Day in the Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Slovakia, Switzerland, Taiwan and Turkey. The first Sunday in May is the day to rejoice in motherhood in the countries of Hungary, Lithuania, Portugal, South Africa and Spain. On May 8 in South Korea Mothers Day is also celebrated as Parents' Day and two days later on May 10, the majority of Bahrain, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South America and the United Arab Emirates pays tribute to its hardworking mothers.

In Poland the date for mothers is May 26 and in Bolivia, May 27, while the Dominican Republic and Sweden honor their mothers on the last Sunday in May. Moms take center stage on the fourth Sunday during the season of lent (also known as "Mothering Sunday") in both the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland which is usually sometime in March or early April, while France kicks into high gear for moms on the last Sunday in May or the first Sunday of June.

In Norway the date for Mothers Day is the second Sunday in February, while March 8 is for mothers in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia-Montenegro, Slovenia, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria and Romania. In Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria Mothers Day falls on March 21. Thailand, Antwerp (Belgium) and Costa Rica celebrate a day for moms in August - for Thailand it is on August 12 and for Belgium and Costa Rica it is August 15 or Assumption Day.

Finally, Mothers Day is celebrated during the latter half of the year in Argentina, Russia, Panama and Indonesia. In Argentina the date for Mothers Day (or Dia de la Madre) is the second or third Sunday in October while Russia pays homage to mothers on the last Sunday in November. Panama and Indonesia celebrate Mothers Day on December 8 and December 22 respectively.
